Fellow Numonians On January 13, 2008, history was made in Umunumo. One of our Indigenous priests, Rev.Dr.Ephraim Nwachukwu flew in from Britain along with a British priest, Rev.FR.Alan Burbidge to perform the foundation Laying Ceremony of a much needed hospital in Umunumo named St.George's Hospital. It is a 30 bed hospital situated at the right hand side of the road to Umuebo from Ibenkwo Umunumo market. It started its journey in March 2006, when Dr. Ephraim gathered a group of friends in England and presented to them the health scenerio in Umunumo whereby due to lack of adequate medical facility sudden and untimely deaths among pregnant mothers, their babies, young people and elderly people alike has become extremely unbearable. The desire to save lives and reduce date rate, in Umunumo has given rise to this project. Around April next year a group of German doctors will be visiting the project with the aim of giving attention to medical cases and taking account of what the hospital needs in terms of equipments. If every expectation about this project falls into place, then the official opening of the hospital is earmarked for January 2010. It was this hope that generated the great joy found on the face of many people in Umunumo on the above mentioned occassion. The ceremony was heavily attended by many Numonians, cutting across religious and political boundaries.Opening prayers was said by the pastor of St. John's Anglican church, the Rev.Jaspa Onwugbuchu After a few speeches by the chairman of the ocassion, Chief Charles Ibegbulam thanked all those who attended and a welcome address was read by the Chairman of the building committee, Mr. Anthony Obi. Donations towards the project were called for and many people donated generously. The proposed hospital is an Umunumo project. The friends from England and Germany are only interested in helping Umunumo people realise their dream of having and running a local hospital. All Numonians, both home and abroad are called to come in and share ideas, volunteer time and connection, donate instruments and money as the case may be. This is our community project and we can leave a legacy of a reliable hospital in Umunumo. The highlight of the ceremony was the joint confernment of chieftaincy title to the expatriate priest Rev.Fr.Allan by two traditonal rulers in Umunumo, Eze CBC Ubah, and Eze (SEE GROUP PHOTOGRAPH) Samuel Okeke.
